Department for Spinal Cord Injuries

In existence since 1987, this department treats patients suffering from paraplegia caused by accident, infection, tumour or vascular disease. Recently injured paraplegics as well as patients with secondary disease and complications (e.g. decubital ulcer, urinary tract disease, spasticity, pain). In combination with outpatient treatment, this department offers comprehensive care for paraplegic patients (the ‘Comprehensive Care’ concept).
At the Gemeinschaftskrankenhaus, generally recognised treatment methods can be extended by artistic therapies. Also light massage, baths and medicinal compresses are important elements in our non-conventional approach.

The aim of our therapeutic approach is to support our patients to find acceptance for their mostly permanent and severe disability, and to develop new social perspectives for a future with the best possible quality of life. This support includes treatment and prevention of complications and secondary diseases on the one hand, and on the other, accompaniment of the process of overcoming the frequently present life crises and achieving the maximum possible physical, psychological and social independence.
