Welcome to the Department of Neurosurgery

We regard our patients as autonomous, informed partners and therefore we aim to determine diagnostic and treatment measures together and on the basis of joint decisions. This approach applies not only to surgical interventions relating to brain disease but also to the peripheral nervous system and the spine, the department’s main work focus.
Further details regarding neurosurgery are listed under the adjoining link Service spectrum. In addition to the diagnostic procedures and individually tailored selection of surgical interventions we place special emphasis on inpatient treatment. A team of neurosurgeons, assistant physicians, experienced nurses, physiotherapists and social workers provide individual treatment and care on the neurosurgical ward 4 A/B and, if necessary, further treatment (e.g. rehabilitation) after the patient has been discharged. Depending on the individual situation and following serious surgery, the patient may require intensive care, intermediate care or interdisciplinary treatment, e.g. in co-operation with the Departments of Oncology, Neurology or Paediatrics.
Advanced minimally-invasive surgery such as transdermal and endoscopic techniques are a standard intervention offered by our department.

The hospital’s interdisciplinary 24-hour Accident and Emergency Department employs physicians who are competent to deal with neurosurgical matters outside of normal office and consulting hours.
